From Grief to Grace: The Story Behind the Butterfly

A deeper calling came out of heartbreak.

After losing her precious daughter Jenna in a tragic car accident, Lori experienced a level of brokenness she could have never imagined. In the midst of that pain, I discovered something powerful: when she focused on helping others, her grief didn’t feel as heavy. Lori's father, a godly man, told her something the day Jennifer died, "Lori you will help so many with her story." Little did she know at the time, he was right.

Then in 2016, Lori retired from the California Prison System in search of purpose for her next chapter of life. She knew she was meant for more and wasn't ready to sit on her front porch and watch the world go by.

What that meant for her was to finally write the book she'd carried in her heart for far too long. But first, she became certified as a John Maxwell coach and started helping clients grow—but something was still missing and she knew what it was. The book.

Lori was speaking, encouraging others, and coaching—but she didn’t have a book. She knew it was holding her back from a greater impact. (She had no idea how much!) So, she dedicated one hour a day and before long she finished, making her lifelong dream come true.

The journey of getting her book done taught her many lessons, not realizing she would share them one day to help others. On launch day, her book became a #1 International Best Seller in eight countries. Thanks to the many supporters who believed in her.

Butterfly Publishing Company was born a few years later—named in honor of Jenna. She loved butterflies, and had begun raising Monarchs in her backyard as a way to keep her memory alive. she says, "It felt sacred and fitting.
